Volunteer Opportunities
With the
National Federation of the blind of Georgia
The
National Federation of the Blind of Georgia is a 501-C(3) non-profit
organization of volunteers. Our use of
volunteers allows us to leverage our limited resources in order to meet the
needs of a large number of blind and visually impaired persons. We work to identify civic minded responsible
individuals that believe in the true potential of blind people to assist us by
serving as volunteers. The following is
a list of volunteer categories:
We
work to increase the availability of more material in accessible formats like
Braille, large print, and digital formats. In those instances that we are
unable to make the information accessible, we try to identify dependable
well-read individuals that are willing to assist our members process mail,
complete forms, and read other basic material.
We
are an organization that conducts outreach, fund raising, training and advocacy
services. With only part-time staff for
administrative support, we can use assistance with Folding brochures,
processing mailings, answering telephones, etc.
WE
are a mutual support organization of blind people, and conduct monthly chapter
meetings and trainings throughout the state.
Our members regularly need individuals that are willing to drive them to
and from our monthly chapter meetings, in addition to, small trips to the
grocery store. In some instances, we
need drivers that are willing to travel longer distances to assist our members
attend special events and trainings in various cities throughout the state.
The
NFB of Georgia hosts several special events each year, like our state
convention, our annual Black Tie White Cane Appreciation Banquet, quarterly
training sessions, and others. We often
need volunteers to work registration tables, serve as docents, or simply work
as resource volunteers for individuals that are attending the events.
